SavyCharts: August 2011
As introduced last month, here’s the regular monthly chart of which SavyGamer deals have been most popular. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been the most sought after game by SavyGamers in August, and the PC is totally dominating the top ten. Part of the reason for the popularity of the PC amongst SavyGamers will be because of my close relationship with RPS, but also I think there is more to it than that. What’s your theory?
Here’s the August charts:

Nice feature, this. Handy for spotting any good deals I missed, as well as just being interesting!
That’s pretty much the idea, glad you like it.
Is there a reason why some of the deals are linked and most aren’t? Are the linked ones just the deals that are still actually running?
Exactly that.
My theory is, that PC games have become a permanent investment, because most of the games will be bound to you, for the rest of your live (until your Steam account gets banned 😉 ).
Console games can easily be bought, played for a week and then sold again, with maybe a £5-£10 loss and I think it doesn’t really matter, when you buy your console game, if you buy it for £40 you can probably sell it for £30-£35, if you buy it for £20 you will probably be able to sell it for £10-£15.
I know, not everybody sells their games, but a lot of console gamers do and the only reason PC gamers don’t do it anymore, is because of DRM.
I don’t think it’s that complicated. I suspect it’s just because PC gamers are generally closer to their browsers than console gamers are. I know many consoles have browsers too now, but I’d imagine that they don’t get as much use as your average PC browser. Plus, on both Xbox and PS3 have their own systems to alerting gamers to their online deals, which aren’t too bad for what they offer.
Gotta love that the Multiformat chart is not only all PC, but there is no Sims or WoW to be seen. Nowhere else can you get the same result.
SavyGamers are a different class.
