SavyCharts: July 2011

Here’s a new thing for you. I can be a bit a of a nut when it comes to looking at analytics and other such data, and I thought you lot might enjoy having a poke around at the wealth of data generated by SavyGamer users. Welcome to SavyCharts, where I track what games are most popular amongst SavyGamers. I might expand it to include other data later on, but for now I’m planning on putting out a monthly chart of which deal posts have been most popular (measured by pageviews), and which games are being searched for the most. Hopefully you might find this of interest.

For the most popular posts, I am only including posts that are for an individual game (or pack of games), so the most popular post by far in July was the Steam Summer sale, but I’ve excluded that because it doesn’t seem worth comparing to other games. I’m also just charting software here, not hardware or accessories. If any of the deals are still available, I will include links.

Here’s the July charts:

For search, I’ve fudged it a little. The human revolution result there includes searches for “Deus Ex”, “Human Revolution” and “Deus Ex: Human Revolution”, but I’ll just be using my common sense here.

Most popular games by search
1. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
2. Battlefield 3
3. Portal 2
4. Skyrim
5. The Witcher 2
6. Fallout: New Vegas
7. Civilisation 5
8. Brink
9. Crysis 2
10. Mass Effect 2

I’ll probably play with the format a bit over time, but I’m planning to do one of these every month going forward.

I’ve just noticed how PC centric the most popular deals post is. I might do format specific top 5s….

    • Might it be worth with the most popular list adding links to said deals if they’re still happening? as some of us may have missed them first time around.

Good call. Almost all of them are no longer available, but I’ll add links for those that are.

I think this might be because… Most people who view this website are PC Gamers? It would make sense to me. *generalisation ahoy* Console gamers usually have no problem paying whatever for their games, but PC games are cheaper and the best deals are to be had (I pre-ordered the Witcher 2 for 15 pounds, as I could probably do with a lot of pre-orders these days). Also, PC Gamers are, well… on their PC a lot, so they browse the web. Console gamers aren’t as much..

The significant skew towards PC gaming in the SavyGamer audience is more likely to do with my relationship with Rock Paper Shotgun.

I must have missed that mass effect one at that price I would be willing to overlook all the dlc that is collector edition exclusive

It was an error from bee.com and pulled after a couple of hours (but my pre-order hasn’t been canceled yet)

        Mine either.

    I like it!
On an unrelated note (just because I saw the retailers list, on the right, again), would it be possible to implement a search bar, which would search all those retailers for a specific game? As I said, I don’t know, if that’s possible, but it would make it way easier to find the cheapest retailer, even if the game is not on a special discount and I guess you could then create an affiliate link, so everybody is happy :)

    | these every month going forward

    I feel sick.

  5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution Price/Edition/Format roundup please! I can’t figure out which version to get (apart from on PC).

I’d love to see a graph of the numbers – I guess that unlike most chart-mongers you’re not scared of showing the relationships between the various items
