Yeah it’s actually a steamworks game so it’s required 🙂
Nope, I bought it from Amazon and while the desktop shortcut is indeed linked through steam you can just browse to the executable file in the ‘bin’ directory and run it standalone from there. It only uses steam to update.
So, you know, if you hate steam I guess that’s a plus.
