PSA: GAME Group Sale

You might have noticed that we’ve been posting a lot of deals from GAME and Gamestation recently. We’ve been going through and picking out what we think are the best deals, but there are many more on the website itself – far too many for us to list.

This sale is also going on in-store as GAME Group attempt to clear stock in light of their recent troubles. You’ll find many of the same deals as are online, although in some cases (as always), there will be differences.

If you have any credit with GAME or GameStation, either in the form of Reward Card/Elite points or gift/trade-in cards, I would strongly suggest that you use that allowance as soon as possible.

At this point, GAME Group are in a situation where they need to hold on to as much money as they are able. If it gets harsh enough, any and all gift card or reward card credit that they have can and will be made unusable. It is also possible (and indeed, likely) that if GAME Group are bought by a third-party that they would not honour this previous credit.

While you are entitled by law to a full refund, using the method in which you paid, for any deposit you may have placed with a retailer, this does not apply to gift card credit. Bear in mind that if you are claiming a refund on a deposit, if it was paid for with reward card points, it will take twenty-four hours for the refund to be credited back onto your reward card.

It’s also quite possible that the store won’t have a game that you want in stock for you to use your credit. If this is the case, look into picking up Xbox Live subscriptions, Microsoft Points, PlayStation Network credit or iTunes credit, as these will retain their value and if necessary can be resold.

Make sure that you take your reward card with you if you have one, as without it physically in-store to scan the store staff will not be able to use any credit you have outstanding on it. Now’s the time to dig out those gift cards you got for Christmas presents and grab some deals while you can.

  1. Just popped into the Oxford St store to check this out.

    A few caveats:
    – You need to have a minimum of 2 pounds credit on your card
    – You cannot pay in full for anything using points- you need to spend at least 50p real money on anything
    – The entire staff seems to have had crash training on sales, they are all over you to preorder, buy online etc. It was like being back in the US!

Unless they’ve changed their policy in the last few days (which I highly doubt), GAME’s reward card points can only be spent in multiples of £2.50, and you absolutely can use that in full for the entire purchase – as long as it comes to £2.50.

So say you have £3 of credit on your card, and you want to buy something worth £3. You can only use £2.50 of that on your purchase, and that extra 50p is left to build up, so you do have to spend 50p cash. But if you wanted to buy something that was £2.50, your card credit would pay for that in its entirety.

I don’t have a working knowledge of Gamestation’s credit system, though, so this may be how it’s done there.

Online you can use any amount – and it’s free postage to UK, so it is still possible to use up your pennies!

I’ll confirm this. Just got a £12.98 game using entirely reward points.

Just picked up Brutal Legend for £1.98 and Mercenaries 3 for 98p. Plenty of other bargains to be had but they were the ones that caught my eye.

  4. The BBC news reckons GAME are imminently going down the shitter.

I have £20 in points to spend but can’t seem to find anything to spend them on!
