I loved Fallout 2 however I never played the new Fallout 3 games because people, who also loved Fallout 2, told me, that it doesn’t have the same feel and the same, dark humour as its predecessor.
Would anyone recommend New Vegas, though? Seems like a good enough deal and what is the difference between Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Do I need Fallout 3 to play New Vegas? New Vegas seems to be Standalone.
What about the story? If I were to play the new Fallout games would I need to play Fallout 3 first to understand the story?
Someone also once said that Fallout 3 is like Oblivion which is, in my opinion, actually a very bad thing. Is that true?
I apologise that I’m so uninformed but I’m merely curious.
Fallout New Vegas is standalone so you don’t need Fallout 3 to play it. You don’t need to have played Fallout 3 to understand NV either (in fact, it may make NV better if you’ve not played Fallout 3 as you’ll be new to the mechanics of the game etc – NV changes very little of the gameplay from Fallout 3).
I preferred Fallout 3 but that, partially, may be because it was all fresh and new at the time – that’s not to say that NV isn’t fun. If you don’t like Oblivion then you’re less likely to enjoy the new Fallout games, they share a number of elements in common.
For £8.75, I’d recommend NV to anyone. It’s an excellent, massive and absorbing game; made better by mods (present and near future).
I really like Oblivion, actually. It’s just that Fallout 2 is so much different from the two latest Elder Scrolls games (I haven’t played the other ones). It feels more like an RPG while Morrowind and Oblivion fell like adventure games with RPG elements (which is not bad! I really like the style and the gameplay and the games themselves); but I’d rather compare Fallout 2 to Arcanum or Baldur’s Gate than to Oblivion and by saying that “Fallout 3 being like Oblivion is really bad” I mean that the direction in which they’re taking the game gameplay-wise is completely different from the first three Fallout games. (maybe I shouldn’t have used the word unusual instead of bad)
But thanks for the info! I’m still not sure whether to buy it due to a lack of gaming time but it seems that it’d be silly not to take that deal! Oh well, I won’t be home until evening so I still have time to think about it. 🙂
Huh does anyone know if this is available on the eu store? Everytime i try to open the eu store it redirects me ti the uk store and it wont let me buy from that store since im in ireland
If I want achievements or DLC, will I have to install GFWL this time too?

No you won’t need GFWL at all, this is a Steamworks title, so you need to register the key and download on Steam, there are Steam Achievements.

There is no such thing as D2D EU store any more. All EU traffic directed to the UK site.
