I'M ALIVE

Terribly sorry for the downtime and redirecting to spam today, although based on the amount of interest on twitter I might start a sideline in Viagra. It genuinely wasn’t my fault all, and was entirely QiQ’s fault (that is my host).

It appears to be totally fixed now, although I’m planning to switch to a new server in the next month or so just to be sure.

Update: Dank Ross‘s QiQ hosted Motorsport blog Motorsport Musings had the exact same thing happen.

Update2: and Andrew Molloy‘s blog, Dark Mobius

Suffered similar things in the past mate, really glad you’re back.

It’s weird I really have come to enjoy checking Savy to see what games are on offer, maybe buy something I otherwise wouldn’t have. It was weird not having it there.

    Good luck with the move!

  2. Hi Lewie

Our search just picked up on your comment mentioning QiQ.

I just wanted to outline the situation. A vulnerability was found on the server which had been exploited enabling the DNS to be modified and the routing of some sites on the server to be redirected. It was a hybrid version of a nasty DNS exploit.

I am sorry you have had to suffer an outage and the obvious inconvenience it has caused. However, I must be realistic and advise that the sad truth is that any website with any provider can be subjected to such an attack.

We pride ourselves on fixing servers as quickly as possible in the rare event of such an issue as yesterday, but also putting systems in place and updating software to prevent them wherever possible and also protecting your data. The QiQ team worked literally around the clock to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible. The reality is that sometimes, thankfully very very rarely, the bad guys get one step ahead of us. Your data is intact on the server and a further 5 backups from the last 5 days are also stored off server (this should not of course discourage you from maintaining your own regular backups).

I take any outage seriously, and particularly outages of this nature. I appreciate the dent in confidence such an event will have but sincerely hope the above demonstrates we are working our hardest to prevent a reoccurrence and to earn your trust again.

    Regards,

    Peter Harris
