I got sent this link, and it is on xbox.com, but I have no explanation as to why Microsoft are giving it away for free. It is a download. It appeared to work for me, and I have a download for the full game making its way onto my hard drive now.
Update: This might actually be just the first section of the game, playable for free, but it does look like the full game. I’ll let you know when it is confirmed one way or the other.
Update2: Totally looks like the full version to me. And other people (in the comments).
A pity it’s only available for Gold Members. Silver Members don’t have access to this.

And I think it’s more that you have to have an ‘xbox live’ profile which means tying it to a windows live ID or something. That’s what I did at least. all I know is I don’t pay subscription fees. Maybe that means mine is just a limited functionality gold account or something. I don’t know.

Ahh worked it out. If you go to the site and you aren’t signed in, once you do sign in it takes you to the £19.99 version. Just click on the link above again and you will be signed in with the price stated as free
Also, the file is just shy of 7GB. The first episode version of Fable 2 is about 2GB. I think it may well be the full thing.
Hmm, I can’t buy it because it’s telling me I don’t have the latest firmware on my console, which I’ve just turned on, no updates available…
Have you had more than one xbox? If so you probably have your old xbox registered to your account.

Does this actually works outside the Uk? I’ve tried to download and it says “not valid region or the offer has expired”.
I’m in the UK and the game’s downloading fine for me (Gold Live member).
I’m outside UK (Portugal) and the game is downloading fine.
Downloading now in UK, member of not-so-exclusive Xbox dashboard beta (which seems to update the console 2 times every time I turn it on).

All their other responses are along the lines of “sorry we’re not sure what’s going on with that.”
And as mentioned before, this is 7gb, a little big for episodic content. My marketplace has the “Download Again” instead of the buy Fable II option.

Seems the full game! I played through the first section of the game (the childhood one, I assume this corresponds to the first chapter) and I’m already on the second one. Also, I unlocked an achievement. According to some forums, on the episodic version you couldn’t unlock achievements unless you bought Chapter 2 (you’d get some sort of message like “if you want to keep your achievements, buy chapter 2!”).
So, yes, it’s the full version!
Also, I don’t have the new-dashboard-beta-whatever and I’ve only got a silver membership.
I can also confirm I just got 95 gamerscore for loading my gamesave from the episode 1 trial.
This IS the full version of the game.
Looks like they have pulled it, when I try and download it says this content is not available for download
Arrgh. Can’t get it to work. Going through the link gets “not available”, going through the site from the top gets a price of £19.99, as does going through the 360 itself.

The menu looked real. Well, as much as anything is real ever…
“This item is not available for purchase from Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web.” is all I get when I click on ‘Download to Xbox360’. Tried signing in & out etc, to no avail =(

If you can unlock achievements it is indeed the full version. The episodic one made you buy extra content for achievements.
I have it downloaded but when I launch it asks for me to update it via xbox live, will this prevent me from accessing the full version if I update?
that’s just a normal title update I believe
I applied the update and it worked OK!
I have just tried to get this via the website, while logged in and it says that I can’t buy this via the site. I have also tried through the xbox but it shows as £19.99. I have a gold subscription.
Has anyone managed to get this working today? If so any advice would be good.

its not working for me. i am gold member. log in, follow the link and when i press download to xbox a windows pops up saying
‘Sorry
