Since it’s on Steam with achievements, can I assume that retail copies will be registerable on Steam?

Yep, it’s a steamworks game. You just plug the serial into Steam, then can throw away the disc.
It’s £26.99 bought directly from Steam, and that’s with £3 pre release discount too.
