Woot, snapping up Guild Wars and BF2.
Already got Trackmania United, WoG and PoP.
I suggest everyone gets Trackmania United Forever. I originally bought it just to support the devs ’cause Nations was so good but it turned out to be an excellent game.
Link broken. Again. 😉
The thing about Trackmania United Forever is that if you don’t care about it being on Steam you can just pick up a boxed copy of the older Trackmania United for cheap and upgrade it with the free patch to the DRM-free Trackmania United Forever. A bit of the worst of both worlds in some ways, I guess — waiting for physical delivery and still having to download a gigabyte or more of patches anyway, but it can be found quite a bit cheaper than Steam’s sale price, everyday (Amazon sellers are listing it for $5 in the US).
The other advantage to a boxed copy is that apparently Trackmania is one of those games where the developers either aren’t sending in patches or don’t realise you have to hound Valve to get them to actually post those patches, and the Steam version is a year or more out of date. This is especially relevant with a new patch having come out last week adding 147 new single-player challenges. I think it’s possible to manually install it over a Steam copy, but then what’s the point of paying extra for Steam?
Oh, also, have you noticed that the D2D sale page has the “cyber monday” one-day deal right in the HTML source but commented out? It’s going to be Mass Effect for $4.95 on the .com, and Batman: AA for £17.50 on the .co.uk. Though come to think of it, Monday starts for you real soon over there, so this probably isn’t much of a headsup.
