Gametail in a bit of a mess
New kid on the internet-games-retail block, Gametail, have encountered a bit of a problem.
They have issued a statement saying that Paypal have suspended their account pending an audit. Here’s the statement in full:
On 23rd September 2010, following extensive discussions with PayPal over the last 14 days, we were informed of the suspension of our PayPal account pending a 6 month audit. To this effect we have been forced to cancel the following orders which were due to ship today:
Dead Rising 2 (PS3)
Dead Rising 2 (Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero 6: Warriors of Rock Full Band Bundle (PS3)
Guitar Hero 6: Warriors of Rock Full Band Bundle (Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero 6: Warriors of Rock Full Band Bundle (Wii)and the following orders due to ship no later than 28th October 2010:
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2011 (PS2)
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2011 (PS3)
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2011 (PSP)
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2011 (Xbox 360)
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2011 (Wii)All other orders placed on all other products to date have been fulfilled and shipped.
We have begun the process of refunding customers, and these will be completed within the next 72 hours. We have also provided PayPal will a full list of customers effected and we hope they will be able to action these refunds in a shorter space of time.

As you can see, the deals I posted for Dead Rising 2 is one of the ones effected. I didn’t bother posting Guitar Hero 6, because seriously who cares?
This isn’t the first time Paypal have done something like this, so I think their story is credible. I have also seen confirmation that they have indeed shipped the PC version of Dead Rising 2, do I am disinclined to think that this is an elaborate scam.
If any of you ordered any of the effected items, could you let me know how the refund process goes, and if you run into trouble.
Lets hope this is only a minor set back for an outfit that I had otherwise been very impressed with, and that prove to be trustworthy.
Received my copy of Dead Rising 2 for PC today, so I very happy with their sevice. Not so happy with stupid GFWL which won’t let me play til Monday… Bah!
There really needs to be a decent alternative to PayPal. They might not feel so free to do what ever the hell like if they have some competition.
I wonder if/when Google checkout will catch on a bit more.
Still waiting for a refund. They are saying that they can’t bulk refund by Paypal so they have to do this manually. I think we all have been scammed.
I’d hope that if it was a scam, everyone would be able to get refunds from Paypal anyway.
