Cocking hell, that’s a load cheaper than direct from GoG with the 2 previous game discount.
Ahh well, not going to cancel my GoG order. Up the Polish (or something).

I appreciate your posting of deals, Lewie, and this should not be an exception — but I would ask people to, IF they can, support GoG directly. They’ve been great to gamers and their pre-order for the game is already an amazing deal, with a fantastic set of bonuses.

I’d be much more inclined to support GOG if they weren’t engaging in extremely severe, consumer hostile, regional pricing discrimination.

      • Daniel Bonomo #

Yeah, it’s quite curious that they do, since they offer that $15-or-so difference in store credit… one does wonder why they don’t just charge the same price everywhere. I don’t doubt that there are reasons, but it’d be interesting to hear from GOG / CD Projekt RED about it.

        • Lewie Procter #

Giving people X amount of store credit costs less than X.

          • Daniel Bonomo #

I know, and I think that’s universally understood. I’m more interested in why they went with this option, instead of the alternative (charging a single currency, or a relevant conversion). It seems like something they would have been asked to do under some contractual guarantee, but given the nature of the relationship between GOG and CD Projekt RED, that seems very unlikely. Perhaps you could try getting in touch with them to discuss the subject?

My working theory is that they agreed to practise regional pricing with the various regional distributors they are working with, and as such they are honouring those agreements. If this is the case, they probably shouldn’t have agreed to do something which results in mistreatment of their customers.

Except they actually give you store credit if you are subject to the regional pricing. And this regional pricing is on EVERY SINGLE SITE ON THE INTERNET.

Dumb excuse to post this dumb deal. Yeah, let’s not support one of the better companies on the market that doesn’t even have DRM on their titles.

        • Lewie Procter #

Are you suggesting I should turn a blind eye to this better deal, and encourage people to spend nearly double that amount at GOG? Simply because they have some policies that you are fond of?

          • Phoenix #

Are you wrong for posting the deal? Nope. Thanks for putting it up there.

That said, CDPR & GoG have done a world of good for the video games industry since they’ve surfaced, IMHO.

Apparently I’m not alone in how I feel about it, but I guess what we’re asking for (or at least what I’m asking for) would be a suggestion for others to check out the deal on GoG too. i.e. not mutually exclusive. Lots of goodies to add extra value and they are at least trying to keep it fair, but obviously limited by some agreement we’ll never know much about.
Of course, your website, not ours.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have said anything until you included the words “consumer hostile” and GoG in the same sentence. Your wording is probably the cause of the reaction here – It sounds like you are “taking a stand” in some of your posts, but I genuinely don’t know if your intention was for it to come across so strongly. Reading tone on the internet is a dark and mystical art few have mastered, after all.

I simply mean that I am of the opinion that regional pricing discrimination is a consumer hostile behaviour.

In fact, I’m not alone in this. Here’s a video from GOG criticising their competitors for practising regional pricing discrimination:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRdfYwvGTos

There’s no legal requirement to engage in regional pricing discrimination. GOG suggesting that it’s “to keep the lawyers happy” rather than “A decision made to maximise revenue” is disingenuous at best.

The key factor deciding which retailer I link to is value. I’ll encourage people to circumvent regional pricing discrimination wherever possible when it represents the best value.

It’s not really my job to drive sales for GOG, my job is to find my users the best deals. If GOG want me to link to The Witcher 3 from them, they should probably make sure it’s the cheapest place to buy it from.

With my backlog of games, thanks to Steam sales spam, this game will be sold for 5 bucks when I’m done playing Witcher 2.

Thank you for this deal Lewie. I can understand the reasoning behind wanting to support GoG, but as of late they’re conducting in something they said would never happen, which makes them every so slightly less “good” in my eyes. It’s not up to you to support a dev/store, you’re here to help us find the best deals, which you do on a daily basis. I can’t even imagine how much money I’ve saved using SavyGamer since it launched, thank you!
