XCOM: Enemy Unknown, PC – Free
My order processed correctly. It’s not given me a serial number yet, it says it should be ready for download at midnight. Obviously this is an error, I have no idea if they will honour it or not, but there’s nothing to lose.
Registers on Steam.
Update: This is no longer available, and it seems they didn’t honour it.

Oh my, how I hope they honour this!
The most legit thing ever.
Weird. I get a message saying I need to verify my account first, and the only way to do this is to contact customer service through their contact form. Wonder if that means they’ve realised the error and have hit the kill switch on ordering until it’s fixed
The website said my account must be verified for this order, and to verify I have to send a support ticket which are only read 9-5. Seems they may have realised?
Hmm, odd; PC World are saying my account needs verifying, even though I’ve used it numerous times in the past.
Anyone else getting this? It won’t let me complete my order because of it.
Hm. It’s telling me that my “account must be verified in order to complete this order.”
Then it tries to get me to fill out a customer service contact form. Something tells me that’s not going to work. How did you folks get through it?
I hope they honour it too, even though someone already bought me it!
Same, account needs verifying. Can’t checkout.
Heh, suspect we may have all been rumbled…
Verify account thing as well 🙁
Need to verify too, they’ve caught on…
So rather than remove/correct it, they’re letting people register on the site and *then* putting the brakes on. I see…
Yes, I cannot purchase it either without first verifying my account. I can’t verify my account.
Just ‘bought’ it. The verify issue is a problem I have had with PCWorld before with a perfectly straightforward purchase, it’s just because the site is poorly run: see offer above.
Not anymore sadly. 🙁
Its not free anymore. Damn.
I sent them a message earlier, eventually got verified and the order went through without a hitch…
I’ll let you know later if I actually get a key.
I did this earlier and it was on my products after the order went through. Now it’s not showing up, I did get email confirmation though.
Order went through successfully early but now it’s disappeared from my order history :/
Is it fair to list these mistakes when they are far outside what a retailer might be expected to honour?
Often retailers do honour the offer in situations like these (ask the people who got Civ5 for £2.60 not long after release).
Edit: And no one has lost anything by giving it a try.
They’re still seilling it for £6.50 less than the official Steam price, which is a pretty decent bargain.
