Sounds like a kind of a good deal but can anyone vouch for the quality of the gothic series? I’ve heard they can be a bit ropy
I can totally vouch for Gothic 2, as should anybody else, who’d played it, G3 is huge, and was very flawed, but the community was given access to some of the source and have made amazing improvements to it… i think i played it so long doing all quests, that i never got to the ending before i turned my attention to other games.. (is that good or bad?)

I would put Gothic II among the top games I ever played, not exactly Deus Ex good but getting close. But then again, I’m a huge RPG fan.
Gothic 1 is probably the best RPG I’ve ever played although it’s technically not an RPG but an action-adventure with RPG elements.
Gothic 2 was okay but what made Gothic 2 awesome again was the Add-On “The Night of the Raven”.
Gothic 3 was really just okay. I also have not played the Add-On “Forsaken Gods” because it was not developed by the original developer Piranha Bytes, just like Gothic 4.
I’m thinking about buying just the first three and skipping the fourth because they are really great, ambitious games although part of what made them so great was the awesome humour which can only be experienced in the original language it was written in (in this case it’s German), as it is always the case.
I think you can forget about Gothic 4. I am very biased against JoWood and would therefore never advise anyone else to buy it but it also seems like that Gothic 4 is only a very mediocre RPG on its own so you might think about whether you’d not rather play something else.
Gothic 1, 2 and 3 are brilliant. But avoid Forsaken Gods and Arcania. They were made by different developers and are nowhere near as good.
If you look around a little, there’s a “Gothic Universe Edition” with just those three, for £5 at the moment, on steam.
Few days ago I got ArcaniA: Gothic 4 for my Xbox 360. Been playing it about 10 hours and what a dissapointment. It feels almost like a Gothic game, but it´s missing all those great things what Gothic series is all about. So people, if you are going to use Steam sales and are going to pick up ArcaniA, it´s just mediocore ACTION RPG, be warned. No animal skinning, no moral choices, no trainers, character leveling is just a dumb skill tree. There is no freedom, just a linear RPG. I for one crapped Universe Edition and Forgotten Gods. And just realized that Forgotten Gods isn´t PB production 🙁 Piranha Bytes all the way!!!
Bought the entire pack, even with all the negative press about Arcania, i thought i might aswell give it ago. <3 Steam Sales.
