Massive Zavvi currency glitch
Edit: It appears that although this seems to work on most items, it doesn’t work on everything.
It looks like Zavvi have just updated their £/€ exchange rate, but made a mistake, and switching from pounds to Euros actually significantly reduces the amount you have to pay.
If you add items to your basket, then click on the “Euro” flag in the top right, you will save about 25%.
This can be used in addition to the 15% off coupon.
No idea when they will notice this mistake, but don’t tell them you heard it from me.
Here are all recent SavyGamer Zavvi posts.
Cheers ran93r.
Update: Here are some nicely discounted items to consider ordering:
Nintendo 3DS [Black] – £158.26 delivered
2,100 MS Points – £9.86
Dead Space 2, Xbox 360 – £23.43 delivered
Dead Space 2 [Limited Edition], PS3 – £23.43 delivered
Pilot Wings Resort, 3DS – £18.65
The Sims 3, 3DS – £18.65
Rayman 2, 3DS – £18.65

Quick, everybody pre order a 3ds.
After checking this a few times I’ve found some items to be more expensive.
RIFT: Standard Edition – £24.85
RIFT: Standard Edition – €29.95
30.00 EUR = 25.8893 GBP
Yeah, all the things I checked first time were cheaper, but I’ve just spotted a few things that get more expensive/stay the same price. Not sure what the rule is, I guess just keep trying different items.
Okay, that’s an even better deal on that PS3 than before.
Stuff it, I’m ordering one.
And now they’re going to fix it. 🙁
No fix yet.
PS3 160Gb with Black Ops £206
Pre-ordered 3DS (Black) £158
Wish I had a few hundred spare.
Yeah I’m not nearly wealthy enough to take advantage of this but I at least got Demon’s Souls for less than £9.50. Thanks Lewie!
2100 Xbox points £10.04 (paypal conversion rate)
Epic Mickey UK: £23.95
Epic Mickey EU: €20.95??
And with the 15% off, 17.38 – which equals about £14.99. Cheapest I’ve seen it. The downside is that it’s marked “expected within a month” which usually means “out of stock”.
Just pre-ordered a black 3DS for £158.
Doubt they’ll honour it, but worth a try.
Heh, just ordered a 3DS with Pilot Wings Resort. *fingers crossed*
Uh, you can get some seriously good deals on consoles!
I would order one but it probably will get cancelled or something.
Seems to be fixed now. I spent too long faffing about checking prices and didn’t actually get an order in!
Aye, looks like they’ve fixed it now. I forgot to preorder any games with the 3DS, went back and it wasnt working
Don’t card providers charge you for spending money abroad though, as in paying in euros?
Depends, but even if they do, it’ll be less than the saving from paying in Euros would be.
I don’t have any issues with using paypal for foreign currency purchases, not in the past anyway with GoG, as they only do business in USD for some reason.
Doesn’t work on Starcraft 2 though. I was hoping to get it cheap 🙁
I ordered Microsoft Points, Rabbids Travel in Time, Crysis 2 PC and Dawn of War. Payed 69E, but now my account says as if my order cost me 83,95. Should I cancel it straight away or wait? Did the price change in your order statuses as well? Can they just simply change it after the transaction has been made?
Unfortunately I used my UK credit card, I didn’t realize paypal is available…
Looks like they’ve fixed it now anyway
This is even more peculiar! In confirmation of my order I got 69E. Whilst I was confirming my transaction they changed the prices of MS Points and Rayman, but the price of Crysis, GTA Complete and Dawn of War stayed the same. It says as if it cost me 84E in my account order section.
Is it possible to cancel only some items from my order? Should I try to contact them?
Yes you can cancel any items you want in Your Account page.
Great deal Lewie, just saved 20 quid on 8400 MS points! Keep up the great work.
They’ve just send me an email saying that they cancelled my order due a technical error, blablablah.
I’m from Spain, and here, such situation is called”misleading advertising”, and it’s totally ilegal, so they are forced to sell the product at the mentioned price. Is there any chance to claim the same in UK?
PS. They gave me a 5pund compensation… woooow
PS2. Excuse my horrible english!
My 3DS preorder has already been cancelled, ah well, I guess in the end I would rather get it from Shopto and receive it on time anyway.
Cancelled. Got given a £5 off orders over £30 voucher. Sucks.
Damn! Spotted!
“I am sorry to advise that, due to a technical error, some products were shown on our site with the incorrect price.
No payment has been taken from your account and we’ve had to take the decision to cancel your order, however please feel free to re-order this item at the price now displayed.
As a gesture and to apologise for any inconvenience or confusion that this may have caused, we would like to offer you £5.00 off your next order with zavvi.com. This code can be used against our entire range for orders over £30.00. Simply enter the unique code: ***-****-**** in your basket and proceed to checkout.
We are really sorry for any inconvenience and upset that this may have caused.”
Haha!
I am in the completely opposite situation. I tried to cancel my order and they sent me an e-mail that I am unable to do so, because my goods are ready to despatch! Wonder if they will charge me the original or the higher price.
Well it would be illegal of them to charge you a higher price than was displayed at point of purchase.
Not sure that would stop them mind.
Yeah, as everyone else has said, my order’s been cancelled because they noticed the glitch. They “kindly” offered me a £5 off voucher… only valid on orders over £30. The generosity.
Can someone with a bit more legal know-how explain where we stand on this one?
+1
Yes, please!
From the way I understand it, if you bought something at a certain price they can’t take it back or charge you more later for it. However, due to the fact they never actually take payment until the items are dispatched they probably can get away with cancelling the orders. They couldn’t if they already had taken your money however. Zavvi seem to like skirting the fringes of the law and using loopholes.
You still might want to check up on it though, as I don’t know the laws word-for-word.
They have recently cancelled orders after taking payment because they messed up the coupon.
The way UK stores work is that an item displayed with a price is an invitation to treat, and as such when you try to buy that item, the customer is the one making the offer. As the store is free to refuse your offer, they do not have to honour the price displayed on the item. Stores can be penalised for misleading advertising though, however there’s no chance that’s going to happen over something like this.
In fact the T&Cs on the website state that “Any orders placed by you will be treated as an offer to purchase the goods or services from us and we have the right to reject such offers at any time.”
So yeah, legally you’ve got nothing.
Unless you got a £5 off code which is nice.
