Zavvi (and presumably The Hut) coupon update
I have just received this email from Zavvi:
Thanks for placing your order with zavvi, order number :
Our sales team have been reviewing the orders that you have recently placed on our site. They have found that over the last few orders you have been abusing our discount codes and publishing this over the internet to other potential customers. It does state on our terms and conditions that only 1 discount code can be used and that we retain the right to cancel any orders, therefore we have taken the decision to temporarily place a hold on your account.

I can’t log in to my account, so I’m not sure which orders they are referring too, I have a few orders from them active at the minute and depending on their definition of abuse, I’m not sure what counts and what doesn’t.
Perhaps instead of blaming me for noticing ways to use their coupons, they should direct their efforts into having a more competent ordering system that isn’t so gapingly open to abuse.
Let me know if you hear anything from them, or have any orders cancelled. My account at The Hut still seems to be active, I wonder if they’ll sell me New Vegas…
By the mention of the ‘One discount code’ it sounds like they are getting annoyed about the earlier exploit of using the 10% off code in conjunction with the other discount code. Doesn’t explain why they’ve only got around to complaining about it now though.
Indeed, the Fallout 3 Goatee + Fallout: New Vegas offer only used one coupon, so I’m kind of pissed off that they have waited until the day before release to do anything. I don’t know whether or not to order it from elsewhere now.
I think the answer is “yes, order elsewhere”. HMV have a cool T-shirt. 🙂
Seems to me they’ve had someone snooping here, otherwise, how would they know you’ve been publishing the info over the internet? Maybe someone snooping in the New Vegas post…
I guess the small print always applies, usually there’s something written in a t&c, but blocking your account is overkill on their part. If anything you’ve done them good advertising – their prices are pretty good anyway and I’d never heard of them before.

I suppose even if their system is easy to abuse, if using or extracting multiple codes is against their T&Cs, then I guess their arses are covered. Using someone’s unsecured wireless network is still against the law, even if it is easily done.*

Yeah, I’m not saying that they are wrong to cancel my order. I do dislike the way they’ve gone about it though.

Doesn’t it seem really odd how they’ve stuck that message in the middle of the standard ‘Thanks for your order’ boilerplate? “Thanks for your order, your account has been suspended!”

While it may be true that the coupon was “abused”, it is not like it has hurt them. People didn’t get the game for free, they bought them from them instead of buying the games from other stores.

When you go to the extreme to get the cheapest deals and then go beyond the agreed T&C’s you can’t exactly complain. Don’t forget that most people pay the full RRP at shite retails stores like GAME, you’re already saving lodsa money by using just one discount code and buying online – there’s no real need to go crazy just for a few pennies.
I contend that you have never read any terms and conditions on any website, ever. And neither have I. Or anyone else for that matter.
I have just been reading the walkers t&c’s and they do also say that you cant use the code with any other offer and the limit is £100. so chances are Zavvi might have cancelled your order under instruction from Walkers? maybe they are spot checking?
Zavvi, Hut etc. are really stupid. They are getting tons of business due to this 10% code thing so they should thank their lucky stars as their delivery times are shite so this code makes up for it a little. Idiots don’t know how to do business properly.
The crappiest games retailer has to be Shopto. Granted they have good prices some times and also deliver quick but they have some retarded policies and a god comples (maybe they are all arrogant coppers). I bet all the people who work there have some sort of mental problem. Ordering 2 of the same game for presents is impossible sometimes as “they” (the almighty) won’t allow it. You dumb scumsuckers what if I want a game for my kid and one for my brother’s kid? And when they refuse 2 orders they also give an arrogant and very rude offensive message about how people are making money by “abusing” their “low” prices! You M*F*, are you not also making money??? I hate that outfit!
