Any PC game from Green Man Gaming – Free

FINAL UPDATE: TURBO:
This offer has now expired.

Update:
I have spoke to Terry Cavanagh, developer of VVVVVV, and he says that he was shocked by the news that this offer was on.

I hadn’t heard a thing about it until I saw the post on SavyGamer. I’ve emailed them and they’ve said they’ll pay me for any downloaded copies, so I guess it’s not a big deal, maybe?

Hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding, and all the developers and publishers will either have given permission, or get paid correctly by Green Man Gaming.

Update2:
Green Man Gaming have confirmed “all publishers will be paid in full on this promotion”. Thanks Gian.

I’ve been sceptical of the service, but this is a great offer.

Register at greenmangaming.com and pick a game you want.

Add it you your basket, and then apply coupon “1FREE-PROMO-WORLD” and that game will be completely free.

IF you can actually run the games. I already have Necrovision: Lost Company and it simply ‘doesn’t work’, their support apologised and said ‘we’re aware. Want a refund?’, the end.

  2. Rich #

Their sight has just slowed to a crawl. I keep getting time-out errors.

    • JB #

same, but it’s not a huge surprise really

Seems OK Now – Just obtained UFO Extraterrrestrials Gold for nowt and it seems to be downloading at a fair speed.

Will be interesting to see how this service pans out. It would appear to be an interesting concept but it really needs some better games on it, otherwise I just can’t see it lasting.

      • JB #

That said, I was getting the time-outs just before the download stage. I downloaded their software (Capsule) from the main page, my game was listed in the Games tab, started the download and it’s whizzing along at a fairly great rate.

Awesome offer, shame the client forces you to download it in one go! (So why is a client needed?!)

    • FatChocobo #

      See my below Reply

It is so if you get flagged for any reason you downloaded the game for nothing.

  4. mamac #

what is to stop anyone creating 20 accounts and get all games for free?

    • FatChocobo #

Your IP will be flagged and you will have downloaded all that shit for nothing.

      • mamac #

they cannot ban an IP address for legal reasons

    • Mike #

Nothing as far as I can see. Except you’d have to remember all the usernames and passwords for the accounts and change login every time you wanted a different game. Still very possible though I believe.
Haven’t tried it though, so there could be IP restrictions.

  5. Dave #

Thanks Lewie, just got Ninja Blade for free 🙂

No pause button on the client is a pain though.

  6. If you buy King’s Quest or whatever for £25, you can trade it in for £20 credit, then get multiple, cheaper games. That’s what I did.

    • Actually it’s not King’s Quest it’s King’s Bounty but same point.

    • Adam Perryman #

      Now it’s only worth £1.99, I think you’ve over-saturated it.

      • Ah lol. Well try other games, you should be able to get something in there.

I got my VVVVVV and £13 credit.

  7. Louis #

Is the trade-in money for the website’s games?

  8. Yeah sadly it needs its own client which puts me out I already have Steam and Desura and will probably be forced to get Impulse Reactor at some point it’s not worth it for a game I’d rather have on steam.

This is an awesome deal. Just finished downloading grand ages of Rome. Superb game. Can’t believe how good this offer is. Absolutely stunning. It’s simple maths really….get customers and then sell them better games later….good work green men!

    • Cap'n Tightpants #

Or people will get their free game, bugger off, and never use the service again. Well, the plan was sound in theory I suppose.

Also, the fact you actaully got it to run peeves me greatly, I’ve been waiting for over an hour with constant time out errors trying to finally, finally get a game. I’m so close I can taste it, it tastes like….victory.

  10. Lewis,

If they are paying for every game we purchase, and VVVVVV author wasn’t informed of this, what exactly are we downloading when we purchase VVVVVV?

This is starting to look a bit weird. These deals are always made by talking with the publishers/developers first. If for nothing else, because usually the store can even arrange a discount with the publisher/developer to soften the store initial loses.

    This does not bode well.

    • Lewie Procter #

I’m keeping an eye on it for exactly those reasons.

I just ordered a game and used the voucher code. The amount due was £0 and it’s available for download in my account, but in the confirmation e-mail they sent afterward says “Total due:£5.99”. Is that supposed to happen? I don’t want to get caught out by anything when I download the game.

Great offer on their part if it is all legitimate.

  12. MaxNormal #

Hmm – after fighting with the site for quite a while I managed to order VVVVVV. The confirmation email says I paid 8.99 but I’m pretty sure it hasn’t actually charged me.

The website is not coping with the load – if you click the add voucher button more than once because it doesn’t seem to be doing anything then the total will show as an amount to be changed to you. It was so slow the first time I tried that the total showed as 104 pounds !
That purchase crapped out so the next time I tried I waited for the add voucher button to do something and then the purchase worked.

  13. rellik #

i m downloading even legacy hope it works well

  14. Tacroy #

I just tried it and got a “The voucher you entered has expired” message. Must be over, or broken.

  15. SA #

I braved the Time-Outs Of Doom and ordered Elven Legacy. Put the voucher in, cost reduced to 0, all was well. But when I completed the checkout I got an error message saying there was something wrong with the order and that they hadn’t taken any money. So I tried again, but it claimed the voucher had expired. Bah.

  16. Quijote3000 #

Two messages saying the voucher has expired. Has it really expired?

  17. HuMaL #

where is the coupon section, i can’t even find it

  18. Victor #

It would seem as though the voucher has expired. i guess i missed the free games.

  19. Kingmarzo #

Thanks for this, I went for Grand Ages Rome. Does anyone who got this know where the serial is for creating a multiplayer account?

    Thanks again

  20. Johnny Go-Time #

Coupon is expired. Darn I wish I would have realized that before giving them my registration info.

    • Mac #

Yup, after trying for over 3 hours to get anything through checkout I gave in and went to sleep … only to wake up with the code not working. This is a really strange way to launch a service … servers without enough bandwidth, case sensitive login which automatically puts your username into lower case as you log in, etc …

Given this experience I doubt very much that I will use them in the future – great marketing campaign …. fail at the first hurdle.

Hi, it’s not the launching of greenmangaming. It was here 3-4 weeks ago,i bought necrovision at 0.01£ and the speed of downloading was amazing (max of my connection)
with this offer a lot of people rush the site.

  21. Arienette #

Damn, I decide to sleep on it and this happens.

  22. zlew #

The voucher you entered has expired.
    🙁

    • zlew #

      I’m the slowpoke!

      • Aradiel #

Yeah, shame. Some of those games looked interesting. Guess I’ll have to wait until whatever the next promo is.

  23. MacQ #

This must be that new way of acquiring customers (in other words accounts).

    • Lewie Procter #

They are very good at making the default setting “Add me to your mailing list”

  24. RHippy #

But has anyone actually got the game working? I’ve downloaded the Void a couple of times and it keeps imploding on launch.

    • Jake #

Maybe it is specifically The Void, I can’t get it working either – downloaded twice but it won’t launch at all from Capsule and launching it from it’s directory just gives a black screen.

  25. Skusey #

Spent ages yesterday trying to get a game and didn’t manage it, now I’m a bit annoyed it’s over already.

  26. I got VVVVVV and it works just fine! It does sound rather dodgy though, but hey.
