I thought you pressed X/Square and the direction? (kind of like God of War).

Upon a quick Google search you have to press the oncoming direction to block and Square/X on 360 to parry it. 40 hours in and I didn’t know the difference. Great game though.

To effectively block in this game, you must push Raiden towards the on-coming attack. He will do the rest automatically.
There’s no block button y’see.
So, pay attention to where the on-coming attacks are coming from and push that direction.

Once you master this skill, the game gets much much more fun. (Took me 3 chapters to go “OHHH! NOW I GET IT!”)
