I can also confirm this is a Steam key and uplay is not needed. Bought the game a while back during the last sale they had on the game.

In reply to Animismus. Basically, when you actually buy the game, it'll process the payment, the page will refresh and if the transaction is succesful, you'll see SERIAL: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. That's your Steam key.
