Comments on: Massive Zavvi currency glitch http://savygamer.co.uk/2011/01/25/massive-zavvi-currency-glitch/ What're you buying, stranger? Thu, 27 Jan 2011 18:49:33 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.5 By: masamunemaniac http://savygamer.co.uk/2011/01/25/massive-zavvi-currency-glitch/#comment-20274 Thu, 27 Jan 2011 18:49:33 +0000 http://savygamer.co.uk/?p=10563#comment-20274 The way UK stores work is that an item displayed with a price is an invitation to treat, and as such when you try to buy that item, the customer is the one making the offer. As the store is free to refuse your offer, they do not have to honour the price displayed on the item. Stores can be penalised for misleading advertising though, however there’s no chance that’s going to happen over something like this.

In fact the T&Cs on the website state that “Any orders placed by you will be treated as an offer to purchase the goods or services from us and we have the right to reject such offers at any time.”

So yeah, legally you’ve got nothing.

Unless you got a £5 off code which is nice.

However, due to the fact they never actually take payment until the items are dispatched they probably can get away with cancelling the orders. They couldn’t if they already had taken your money however. Zavvi seem to like skirting the fringes of the law and using loopholes.
You still might want to check up on it though, as I don’t know the laws word-for-word.

They “kindly” offered me a £5 off voucher… only valid on orders over £30. The generosity.

Well it would be illegal of them to charge you a higher price than was displayed at point of purchase.

Not sure that would stop them mind.

I am in the completely opposite situation. I tried to cancel my order and they sent me an e-mail that I am unable to do so, because my goods are ready to despatch! Wonder if they will charge me the original or the higher price.

I’m from Spain, and here, such situation is called”misleading advertising”, and it’s totally ilegal, so they are forced to sell the product at the mentioned price. Is there any chance to claim the same in UK?

PS. They gave me a 5pund compensation… woooow
PS2. Excuse my horrible english!

I don’t have any issues with using paypal for foreign currency purchases, not in the past anyway with GoG, as they only do business in USD for some reason.

In confirmation of my order I got 69E. Whilst I was confirming my transaction they changed the prices of MS Points and Rayman, but the price of Crysis, GTA Complete and Dawn of War stayed the same. It says as if it cost me 84E in my account order section.

Is it possible to cancel only some items from my order? Should I try to contact them?

Depends, but even if they do, it’ll be less than the saving from paying in Euros would be.

Payed 69E, but now my account says as if my order cost me 83,95. Should I cancel it straight away or wait? Did the price change in your order statuses as well? Can they just simply change it after the transaction has been made?

Unfortunately I used my UK credit card, I didn’t realize paypal is available…

And with the 15% off, 17.38 – which equals about £14.99. Cheapest I’ve seen it. The downside is that it’s marked “expected within a month” which usually means “out of stock”.
